Wesley Snipes ' attorneys asked a federal appeals court Friday to review an "unreasonable" three-year prison sentence for the film star, who was convicted a year ago on federal tax charges.
Attorneys for the star of the "Blade" trilogy and other films also argued the actor should have been granted a hearing to decide whether his trial should have been in New York instead of Florida.
Prosecutors countered that Snipes, 47, had plenty of time to appeal to move the case to New York in a timely ...

A Blenheim rest home worker is being investigated by police about alleged assaults on dementia patients.
A complaint was laid with police about several alleged minor assaults on the patients at Aberleigh Rest Home, The Marlborough Express reported.
Staff members alerted management to the alleged abuse, said Aberleigh director Alison Hume, who bought the home with her business partner Jim Haines in January, this year.

A KU student who police say was involved in the robberies of two local delivery drivers will have a jury trial next April, according to the judge in the case.
At an arraignment hearing on Friday, District Court Judge Robert Fairchild said a jury trial in the case will begin April 26 at 9 a.m. Billy Kernizant is accused on four charges; two for aggravated robbery and two for conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.
Kernizant appeared alongside his lawyer, who asked that his bail be reduced.

A local man who is no stranger to law enforcement was arrested this week for allegedly stabbing his own brother.
Alex Frank Miller, 27, of Logan, was arrested in Logan by Officers J.L. Sheppard and D.A. White of the Logan Police Department for malicoius wounding on Nov. 18.
According to police reports, on Nov. 17, the officers responded to a call from Dingess Street in regards to an individual who had suffered stab wounds.

A Boaz man missing for more than a week was found dead Thursday morning, according to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
Authorities discovered the body of 58-year-old Michael Winford Williams at 9:45 a.m., about a quarter-mile from where he was last seen Nov. 7 at 1640 Thornhill Road.
A family member reported him missing Nov. 10.
"He was found in a wooded area not previously searched by Sheriff's Office investigators," Entrekin said in a press release Thursday.

Charles is wanted for aggravated assault in connection with an incident on Wednesday that occurred at 8 a.m.
Police say Charles is accused of entering a residence and using a bladed weapon to assault a 37-year-old female victim who was know to the suspect.
Charles is currently charged with breaking and entering, mischief under $5,000, sexual assault, overcoming resistance to the commission of an indictable offence and uttering threats.

A Prescott Valley man was arrested after a 7-hour standoff with police Friday.
Police were called to the home in the 4300 block of Romero Circle East at approximately 3:30 a.m. by a woman claiming shots had been fired in a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived they were able to remove the woman from the home.

The cause of the suspicious death of a 2-year old Erie girl has been ruled "undetermined."
Police had named Marquice Evans a person of interest in the case after Warren's 5-year old sister said Evans put a towel over the victim's face.
Evans was in prison on an unrelated robbery charge, but has since been released.

The fate of a black school teacher charged with assaulting police officers is now in the hands of a jury.
A jury of 10 white women, one black woman and one black man began deliberating the case of Heather Ellis late Friday.
Ellis, now a teacher in Louisiana, is charged with assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace at a store in the southeast Missouri town of Kennett.
